EC: Briefly describe the product or service your company provides.

 

TB: Spain’s first flower retail chain selling through a variety of sales channels under one common brand.  

 

EC: What is your role in the company?  How many people in your founding team and what are their roles?

 

TB: Founder.  One other co-founder besides myself, but he has already left the company.  Business Angel investor entered and is now running operational activities of business.

 

EC: Current stage of development:

 

TB:

  • Business Plan developed: Dec 2003

  • Company registered: June 2004

  • First customer: September 2004

  • First shop opening: November 2004

 

EC: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

 

TB: Starting Lilium, even though at some point in July 2004 my partner decided to leave and investors backed out. Found a new partner who runs the business now.

 

EC: What do you wish you could do over again knowing what you know now?

 

TB: Clear responsibilities with all founders from the beginning.  Ventures always start small: no need to go for big financing from the beginning.

 

EC: What do you find the most satisfying about your life as an entrepreneur?

 

TB: Personal freedom and the variety of tasks.

 

EC: What is the hardest part of daily life as an entrepreneur?

 

TB: Manage complexity, take decisions without full transparency and manage various tasks (own job and company).

.

 

EC: Would you do it all over again?

 

TB: Of course.

 

EC: So far, what have been the most important things you've learned?

 

TB:

  • Talking to investors.

  • Starting a business from a legal point.

  • Manage personnel.

 

EC:  Do you have any words of advice for students from the IESE MBA that are considering starting their own businesses after graduation?

 

TB: Start while at IESE: you will never have so much freedom in thinking, free time and good infrastructure as you do while at IESE.
